A hint of color

Medi-Flex introduces the Hi-Lite Orange tinted applicator, an addition to its Chlora-Prep patient preoperative skin preparation product line. The tint gives the surgical team assurance that the procedural site has been prepped, while still allowing visualization of the skin. This one-step skin preparation delivers tinted ChloraPrep solution (2% chlorhexidine, 70% isopropyl alcohol) in an applicator that keeps hands away from the site and provides a gentle friction scrub to help penetrate deeper into the dermal layers. The tint is added to the ChloraPrep solution as it passes into the sponge pad on the applicator. The new ChloraPrep tint is available in three applicator sizes: 3 mL, 10.5 mL, and 26 mL.

Just right

The Neonatal Substrate Warmer from Neonatal Product Group can aid in the safe and efficient feeding of several at-risk neonates and infants at once. Originally designed by a neonatal nurse, the warmer automatically prepares the substrate and breast milk; holds four different receptacles or wells, each controlled on a separate LED keypad; uses disposable thermal warming bags; continually mixes milk and milk fat together; quickly heats frozen or refrigerated breast milk and formula; and sounds a gentle alarm when the proper temperature is reached. It plugs into a standard electrical outlet and uses either distilled or tap water.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved the use of risperidone (Risperdal) orally disintegrating tablets for the symptomatic treatment of irritability, including aggression, deliberate self-injury, and temper tantrums, in autistic children and adolescents. Risperidone, an antipsychotic drug indicated for adults, is the first drug approved to treat behaviors associated with autism in children. In two recent trials of 156 patients ages 5 to 16, risperidone achieved significantly improved scores for certain behavioral symptoms of autism compared with children on placebo. The most common adverse reactions to risperidone include drowsiness, constipation, fatigue, and weight gain.
