Novak, MSN, APRN, BC, Adult Nurse Practitioner, Diabetes Institute, Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, D.C., will discuss "Type 2 Diabetes: Focus on New Recommendations". In this session, you will hear about the latest guidelines for treating type 2 diabetes and be able to improve long-term outcomes for your patients in your clinical practice. You will also learn strategies for teaching your patients about lifestyle and pharmacologic management early.
On Thursday, be sure to check out, "Challenges of Migraine in Primary Care", led by Wendy L. Wright, MS, RN, ARNP, FNP, Adult/Family Nurse Practitioner, Merrimack Village Family Practice, Merrimack, NH. Recent research has shown that the vast majority of individuals with migraine have been diagnosed incorrectly; many have been told they suffer from sinus or tension headaches. This session will teach the etiology, symptoms, signs, and current treatments for migraine and will include a comparison between the various triptans.

Have you thought about writing for professional publication but don't know how to go about it? This year, the conference offers an optional lunch session, "Do the 'Write' Thing for Your Career." Led by the clinical director of The Nurse Practitioner journal, this session will help you to develop a manuscript that suits the needs of the reader, the journal, and the editors, so you are more likely to get published. During the session, attendees will participate in an open discussion of topic ideas and listen to feedback from the group.
