Abstract

The summaries that follow describe research studies published recently that we believe may hold special interest for home healthcare nurses. The studies focus on different aspects of evaluating or promoting patient self-management. The first summary captures details of a review evaluating self-management interventions for heart failure. The second summary provides information on a specific health behavior action plan intervention. The third and fourth reviews focus on identification of specific issues related to medication nonadherence and important strategies for promoting medication management among older adults in the community.

We hope the following summaries will stimulate some thinking about evidence-based approaches that can be tried in home care organizations to promote self-management support. For additional details about the interventions and research findings, we suggest that our readers go to the original articles.
