Abstract

Arriving at Mrs. Smith's home, you note that she is sitting on the couch with a TV tray beside her filled with water, medications, crackers, and the TV remote control. While completing the assessment, you ask her whether she currently is having any pain. She says no. You ask further about whether she ever has pain, and she indicates rarely. A review of her medications shows a prescription for Tylenol #3, and you note that the bottle is half empty. When discussing her usual activity level, Mrs. Smith indicates that she is not very active. Her daughter comes by each morning and puts items she will need on the TV tray. Further in the assessment, you ask to see her bathroom setup and notice that she grimaces when getting up from the couch. Does this patient have pain?
