Kudos to Mullen!! What a pleasant surprise that AJN published his point of view. As an RN for almost 40 years, one of my biggest disappointments has been how nursing has lost its dignity. First, LPNs and nurses' aides were eliminated from hospitals. Then the number of unions professional nursing organizations supported increased and created an us-against-them mentality. And now nurses in leadership positions are pushing their political agendas and telling us we have a professional duty to oppose war. I refuse to join any union, go on strike, or march in a picket line, and I no longer subscribe to nursing journals that dictate what I should think.
