In the cover photograph, taken on May 24, 2005, Mary Ann Wozniak, RN, explains the Dinamap machine to a young patient in the Day Medicine Unit at Nemours-Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware. Wozniak is assuring the boy that when she's measuring his blood pressure she will be as careful as she has always been during his many visits to the unit.

"His curiosity about the equipment, the spirit of trust between them, and the true caring of a pediatric nurse were the drivers behind my shooting this image," says the photographer, Cynthia Brodoway. Brodoway began her career in botanical photography and portraiture in 1978 at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. In 1981, she transitioned to medical photography at the children's hospital in Wilmington. Several of her photographs have been featured on AJN's cover.

The photograph was a finalist in the 2007 "Faces of Caring: Nurses at Work" photography contest sponsored by AJN and the New York University (NYU) College of Nursing, with support from Johnson and Johnson's Campaign for Nursing's Future, the Beatrice Renfield Foundation, and the Jonas Center for Nursing Excellence. (Twenty-six photographs were selected for an exhibition mounted at NYU in May that is now touring the country. For information on booking the exhibition, call Amanda Geer at [646] 674-6609.)
