Abstract

Translating research and implementing practice guidelines on Alzheimer's disease for long-term care residents is generally a long and laborious process. This article explores how a long-term care company implemented 3 of the practice guidelines promulgated by the National Alzheimer's Association. Specifically, the article looks at wandering, falls, and restraints and some of the strategies employed in dealing with each in the dementia population. Various interventions and programs were developed to limit or eliminate negative outcomes. The article describes several of them and how they impacted results.
