PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The RB Turnbull, JR School of WOC Nursing is a fully accredited Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing Education Program. Established in 1961 the Cleveland Clinic WOCNEP program offers candidates a full scope split-option course four times a year in Cleveland, Ohio. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The University of Virginia School of Nursing now offers WOC training within its master's programs. WOC nursing incorporates principles and practices that promote, maintain, and restore health for persons with wounds, ostomies, and continence problems throughout their lives. WOC nurses specialize in the care of individuals with disorders of the gastrointestinal tract and genitourinary and integumentary systems.

 

Onsite: Three 3 graduate-level credits for a total of 9 credit hours. Fall semester: A 3-credit-hour graduate-level class on introduction to WOC nursing is offered.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: This online program is offered for registered nurses who seek advanced knowledge and skills in ostomy management and who function well as independent learners, who have access to a computer, and who feel comfortable using the internet as an educational resource. Didactic content, assignments, examinations, and course evaluations are presented sequentially over eight weeks in an asynchronous online format. A unique feature is that students in the program have the opportunity to access the site and interact with other students and faculty at times convenient to their schedule with faculty available daily. A minimum of forty hours of clinical experience arranged by the student with a WOCN-qualified preceptor in two different clinical settings follows the didactic component. This program has no onsite requirement. Students will earn 6 graduate quarter credits.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: This program is offered for registered nurses who seek advanced knowledge and skills in the management of chronic and complex wounds. The web-supported portion of the program is six weeks and provides content using multiple teaching and learning strategies, with twenty-four hour per day availability and universal access to the classroom and content. This prepares the student for the intensive on-site portion of the class which consists of fourteen days of didactic and clinical experience. The course addresses a broad range of wounds, healing problems, and components of specialized nursing practice using a variety of expert faculty. Concepts guiding the didactic content and practicum are prevention, assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of the healing process. A unique aspect of the program is the selection and matching of students with preceptors certified in wound care and practicing in various health care settings. Additionally, observation of resources using adjunctive treatment modalities is included in the onsite session. Students will earn 6 graduate quarter credits.
