My wife is an RN and I've been a medical technologist for 20 years. I believe that the issue of quality versus quantity of life isn't well addressed in the health care community. All health care personnel need to be honest about the suffering and complications that patients may face after treatment.

We need to educate our patients about quality of life issues. We should be stressing comfort, hospice, and pastoral care and support services rather than endless futile treatment.
