ATMOS Inc, Allentown, Pennsylvania, has entered the negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) market with the S041 Wound Pump, which is the first of several new innovative suction pump products that will be available to the global marketplace in the coming months. The S041's approach to wound management and healing uses NPWT, which has been shown to improve the healing process and greatly decrease the risk of infection and amputation and length of hospital stay, and has the potential to save billions of dollars in annual healthcare costs, according to the manufacturer. The S041 Wound Pump supports quick mobilization of the patient and fewer dressing changes and is a cost-effective means to treating wounds. At the push of a button, the vacuum adjusts quickly and precisely to set levels because of a novel sensor design. The technology of the S041 Wound Pump allows an almost noiseless operation and an innovative intermittent mode that allows settings up to 5 minutes on or off. The device also has a patient safety lock and an acoustic/visual alarm.
