A shield for the body

Unimed-Midwest, Inc., announces its new Body Shield body support. Comfortable to wear and easy to put on, Body Shield is worn under clothing and next to the skin. It's constructed of open-cell foam fabric, which minimizes bruising and reduces swelling after surgical procedures while wicking away moisture and heat. The fabric is low stretch, and the support fastens with strong, easy-to-use hook-and-eye closures. Body Shield is available for almost any body part, including abdominal binders for postoperative cosmetic procedures and postmaternity.

Rapid detection coming right up

BD Diagnostics has received FDA clearance for its GeneOhm Cdiff molecular assay for the rapid detection of the toxin B gene found in nearly all toxigenic Clostridium difficile. It's the first C. difficile infection molecular diagnostic that offers sensitivity, simplicity, and speed in a one-test procedure. The stool test allows same-day identification of toxigenic C. difficile, which should improve patient care because it gives labs the option of a single assay that will markedly reduce or eliminate the need for multiple screening and confirmatory tests. Reduced wait time will lead to earlier implementation of infection control interventions that help prevent the transmission of the pathogen to other patients.

A "ribbon" that heals wounds

ConvaTec offers the Aquacel Ag dressing with strengthening fiber. This improved ribbon dressing is up to 20 times stronger than its original ribbon dressing and offers reduced shrinkage. It can be used to pack a wide variety of cavity wounds, such as postsurgical wounds, excised abscesses, pilonidal cysts, and stages III and IV pressure ulcers that have tunneling and undermining. It's also the only absorbent filler dressing to offer the unique gelling benefits of hydrofiber technology plus ionic silver, which kills a broad range of pathogens in the dressing, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and vancomycin-resistant Enterococci, according to the manufacturer.
