I work as an RN in a medical-surgical unit. Management wants RNs to make discharge phone calls to patients 48 hours after discharge to ensure that they understand their discharge instruction sheet and to learn how we can improve our service. We were told to introduce ourselves as RNs when calling. We were also told that it's okay to give advice if the patient asks a question about his condition.
These phone calls aren't recorded, nor do we have a protocol or algorithm to follow. I don't feel comfortable making these phone calls under these conditions, but management insists. ...
