Nancy Collins, PhD, RD, LD/N, FAPWCA, Weston, Florida, a contributor to Advances in Skin & Wound Care, was named the 2009 Outstanding Nutrition Entrepreneur Award Winner. The Nutrition Entrepreneurs Dietetic Practice Group will honor Dr Collins at a reception this month, at the annual American Dietetic Association Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo in Denver, Colorado.

 

Dr Collins has exemplified the spirit of a true entrepreneur in her 20-year career, although her 2 passions stray from the traditional path of registered dietitians. Her first love is wound care, and her second love is technology.

Dr Collins has extensively studied the nutritional needs of patients with wounds and the effects of unintended weight loss on healing. She is passionate about educating other healthcare professionals on these topics and has delivered more than 350 professional lectures on these topics and has authored numerous articles. Her memberships include the American Professional Wound Care Association, which granted her fellow status-making her the sole dietitian with the FAPWCA credential. Dr Collins also serves as an expert witness in medical malpractice and wrongful death suits. In addition, she has created the Web sites "RD411.com" and "Wounds411.com," which provide more than 1500 free, peer-reviewed, downloadable and customizable resources covering a variety of topics in nutrition and healthcare. Currently, Dr Collins also serves as the Florida affiliate delegate to the American Dietetic Association.
