The American Professional Wound Care Association

APWCA2010. APWCA2010 Wound Care and the Related Sciences will be held April 8-11, 2010, at the Sheraton Philadelphia City Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. APWCA2010 will be highlighted by thought and content leaders in wound care and a faculty who will provide a different global perspective on the diagnosis and treatment of difficult healing wounds.

Chosen for their backgrounds, the 2010 faculty includes "world opinion leaders," such as Dieter Mayer, MD, MAPWCA, Switzerland; Michael Edmonds, MD, FRCP, FAPWCA, London, England; William Li, MD, Boston, Massachusetts; and many more. Steven Kavros, DPM, FAPWCA, will lecture on "The Swollen Limb" and Allen Jacobs, DPM, FAPWCA, will speak about "Neuropathy."

The full spectrum of infection and its complications will be discussed during the APWCA-iLegx Collaborative Symposium. The symposium addresses diabetic foot infections and osteomyelitis, antimicrobials, and recognition of the infected wound.

APWCA2010 is sponsored by the APWCA and Temple University School of Medicine. The American College of Hyperbaric Medicine, Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine, New Cardiovascular Horizons, the VEITHsymposium, the World Union of Wound Healing Societies, and iLex/Biba Medical are conference partners.

Council for Medical Education and Testing

The Physician-Specific Wound Care Certification Examination credentials all prescribing physicians (MD, DO, and DPM) and is offered by the Council for Medical Education and Testing (CMET). The certification process is the examination endorsed by the APWCA and recognized by the American College of Hyperbaric Medicine. Produced and administered by physicians and for physicians, it is the first certification process specifically for physicians in the field. The CMET intends this to be the first step to obtain specialty recognition in wound care.

The next examination will be offered on Saturday, February 27, 2010, at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel, Los Angeles, California, an LAX Airport hotel.

Plans for 2010 also include offering the examination on Sunday, April 11, in conjunction with APWCA2010 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Resources for study can be found on the CMET Web site.
