Abstract

Research assessing the possible benefits of prebiotics, probiotics, and synbiotics in the treatment or prevention of colorectal cancer (CRC) has become increasingly popular as the prevalence of CRC continues to increase. However, limited randomized controlled trials are available assessing these benefits. A database search yielded 6 studies that met the criteria for the review. The available research focused on the prevention of reoccurring colorectal tumors or cancers in polypectomized participants and the use of prebiotics, probiotics, or synbiotics in the treatment of CRC symptoms.
