Abstract

The best outcomes for patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus depend on ongoing glycemic control, which is achieved by healthy nutrition, regular physical activity, stress control, and, usually, the addition of a variety of medications that are increasingly more sophisticated and easier to use but often more expensive. This article examines the types and characteristics of medicines available for glycemic control and provides resources to help patients manage the financial burden of the diabetes medications.
