The state boards of nursing set the standards for qualified students and nurses to obtain their licenses to
practice and to reestablish licensure (requirements include continuing education and mandatory courses on specific topics such as infection control or child abuse detection and reporting). They also determine participation in the multistate licensure compact, which allows nurses to practice in more than one state with one current license, and provide current information on the scope of nursing practice within the state.
