Yesterday I left a patient's room in tears, unable to finish caring for her. Like my sister Karen, who was diagnosed just a week ago, this patient had multiple sclerosis (MS). I couldn't help thinking, This is what will happen to Karen soon . I want to provide good care for this patient, but I'm not sure I can. Would I be out of line to ask for a reassignment?—I.G., MONT.
