    Along with proper nutrition and exercise, you need enough sleep to feel your best—generally 7 to 8 hours a night for an adult. During sleep, your body stores your day's learning into memory and improves your ability to absorb and retain everyday skills. A good night's sleep also reenergizes you for the day ahead.

When sleep deprivation is chronic, you accumulate a sleep debt, so concentrating is difficult and you're more likely to make mistakes that endanger you and others—such as dozing off while you're driving.
