Does a true, national standard of nursing care exist? Or does that “standard” actually vary somewhat, depending on where you practice and who's on the state board of nursing? I'm wondering if a nurse could be held to one standard in one state and a different standard for the same procedure in another state .—E.M., CALIF.

A national standard of nursing care does exist, but so does the “locality rule,” which recognizes differing standards across our country.
