    PREVENT DANGEROUS exposures to blood and body fluid by correctly putting on, using, and removing personal protective equipment (PPE). To avoid or limit contact with blood and body fluids (BBF), follow these guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

    Putting it on

    Put on PPE before contact with the patient, preferably before entering his room. (See What to Wear ? for recommended PPE in various circumstances.) Follow this sequence:

    1. Put on an isolation gown with the opening in the back and secure it; if the gown doesn't close, put on a second gown with the opening in the front and secure it too.

    2. Place a mask or respirator over your nose, mouth, and chin; fit the flexible nosepiece over the bridge of your nose and secure the ties or elastic. ...
