The American Heart Association has launched Go Red for Women, a national campaign to raise awareness that heart disease is the number 1 killer of women and to provide information to help women to lead healthier lives. The campaign is sponsored by Macy's and Pfizer and is also supported by an educational grant from the PacifiCare Foundation. There are three free programs:
* Go Red for Women offers free educational information about how women can lower their risk of heart disease. You can sign up for this program and get a free brochure and Red Dress lapel pin by calling 1-888-MY-HEART. You can get this information in English or Spanish. Or sign up online at http://www.americanheart.org and get free educational newsletters and online tools.
* Simple Solutions is a free educational program sponsored by the California Walnut Commission. Its goal is to educate women about how to incorporate simple steps into their lives to reduce their risk of heart disease and stroke. Participants will receive a series of communications and incentives that reinforce that they can live a healthy life by taking one simple step each day. To participate in the Simple Solutions program, log on to http://www.s2mw.com/simplesolutions/index.html.
* Choose to Move is a free physical activity program for women sponsored by The Almond Board of California. This program shows women how to "choose to move" by exercising regularly, selecting nutritious foods, and taking time for themselves. Over the course of the 12-week program, participants will learn how to change their behaviors to incorporate these healthy habits into their lives. Check it out at http://www.s2mw.com/choosetomove/.
