ABSTRACT

THE RETROGRADE INFUSION method can be used to deliver an I.V. medication volume of 1 ml or less to neonates. This method, which isn't used for adults, lets you administer a small I.V. dose without increasing the infusion rate or fluid volume, which is especially important for neonates on fluid restriction.
