As a clinical instructor, I supervise nursing students in an outpatient clinic. Recently, a student reported witnessing a staff nurse speaking rudely to a patient who was being treated for a sexually transmitted disease (STD). Apparently this patient has been treated at the clinic for STDs on many other occasions. Afterward, the nurse told my student that she was “fed up” with this patient because he won't listen to patient teaching or alter his unsafe sexual practices.
