I work in a transitional care unit (TCU) at a major medical center. Almost every hospital in our region has a similar unit, so competition for patients is fierce. The hospital offers financial bonuses and career incentives to teams with the best nurse/patient ratio, the fewest turnovers and call-ins (such as for illness), and the most economical patient care with shortest lengths of stay.
