OLDER ADULTS ARE AT RISK for falls and serious injury for various reasons, as I discussed in a previous article, “Take Steps to Protect Your Patient from Falls” (April 2006). In this article, I'll focus on how medications, medication interactions, and polypharmacy (concurrent use of multiple drugs) can increase a patient's risk of falling, and what practical steps you can take to protect him.
