MANY THINK of the postpartum period as a happy, wonderful time. Unfortunately, that isn't the case for 10% to 20% of new mothers who are diagnosed with a postpartum mood disorder (PMD). 1

In this article, after telling you about the disorders and current screening methods, I'll describe the proactive approach we took at York (Pa.) Hospital to identify women at risk for a PMD and then get them help.
