What are the ethical implications if nurses skip a small step in a procedure, or do it inconsistently, in order to save time? For example, nurses who are in a hurry sometimes skip hand hygiene after removing their gloves. We don't want to put our patients at risk, but we have a lot to do and are under the gun to save time where possible. What do you think? —J.D., CALIF.
