ABSTRACT
Fear of the unknown can be a major stressor for any patient. A child facing surgery often imagines the absolute worst-case scenario as the outcome.1 Explaining the plan of care to the patient's family or guardian and discussing concerns in advance can help reduce anxiety and yield valuable information, including the child's medical history, previous surgical experiences, developmental stage, and coping mechanisms.1 The healthcare team can then individualize the plan of care to best meet the patient's and family's needs.How much information should be given to the child?
