ABSTRACT
Consumer health is fast becoming a topic of interest to engage consumers and drive patient-centered care. Consumer health in combination with healthcare technology will have a major role in healthcare reform and transform care delivery. The Office of the National Coordinator is leading efforts to educate and engage consumers on the benefits of health information technology (health IT). The campaign encourages individuals to become partners in their health through the use of health IT. This article is an example of how a state initiative is making forward progress on a local level to support national health IT initiatives.Electronic health is becoming a valuable resource for health information. In addition, the need to engage and connect with consumers has never been more critical. The Internet is rapidly becoming a choice for health information. According to the Pew Internet and American Life Project,1 approximately 80% of Internet users, or 59% of US adults, look online for health information.
