Recently, I reviewed the case of a 58-year-old man who experienced an adverse drug event in the hospital. The patient received a benzodiazepine sedative hypnotic orally at bedtime. Approximately 2 hours after receiving the dose, he was found out of bed walking in a hall. The patient had discontinued his intravenous infusions, made his bed, and changed his clothing. He was communicating appropriately with the nursing staff; he appeared awake as the staff took him back to his room and was cooperative during the restart of intravenous infusions.
