Every year, approximately 1 of every 20 workers in the United States is injured while at work. This statistic shows the potential for 1 of every 20 workers who is at risk for disability. Unless the injury is managed with a focus on timely recovery and preventing or minimizing disability, we are potentially playing an active part in creating disabilities. The definition of disability that I am referring to in the context of this article is time lost from work, or separation from the work force and failure to recover to a previous optimal level of function on the job.
