When the Centers of Medicare & Medicaid Services released the revised incontinence tag F315 in 2005, I once again felt a strong reinforcement from our government about the importance of wound, ostomy and continence nursing. In June of 2005, I was working in nursing homes but was asked to focus more on primary care than on my specialties. The flurry of questions that followed the release of the revised tag seemed to provide me with the perfect opportunity and excuse to shift focus back to one of the sciences that I really enjoy, continence.
