Volunteerism is defined by http://dictionary.com as the policy or practice of volunteering one's time or talents for charitable, educational, or other worthwhile activities, especially in one's community. That community in this instance is plastic surgery as a specialty. You all have talent and the activity is very worthwhile. And as the summer is finally upon us and, as you make plans for the next few months, please look to the fall and our national meeting in Chicago. I strongly encourage you to make every attempt to attend this meeting. If you have never been before, it is a great time to talk to colleagues in the business and exchange ideas, learn, and form lasting friendships. It is a time to recharge your battery and get energized by all the exciting things going on in our association and plastic surgery as a specialty. And it is a very good time to join a committee and get involved.

Being involved strengthens your commitment to the practice and provides personal satisfaction. The PSNCB has two open director positions for which we are currently accepting applications. Applications are available through the board office. And if the PSNCB board is not in your area of interest, there are many other ways to be involved. Begin by moderating a session; it will blossom from there.

Some of the directors from the PSNCB will be meeting with Center for Nursing Education and Testing in Chicago along with regional subject matter expert plastic surgery nurses for the next stage in our examination development as well as continue working on the American Board of Nursing Specialties accreditation process. We are on task to complete this project by 2015. These projects could not happen without the collaboration of so many talented individuals who give of their time and expertise for the association. Thanks to all of you who contribute in so many ways!
