According to this study in The Journal of the American Medical Association, daily sedation interruption for mechanically ventilated patients did not reduce the duration of mechanical ventilation or ICU stay.

This meta-analysis from Critical Care Medicine finds that “administration of etomidate for rapid sequence intubation is associated with higher rates of adrenal insufficiency and mortality in patients with sepsis.”

For ICU patients, universal decolonization, including daily chlorhexidine baths and mupirocin for five days, is associated with a reduced risk of MRSA.

According to this pilot study, a chloride-restrictive intravenous fluid strategy decreases the incidence of acute kidney injury and use of renal replacement therapy.
