Health Resources and Services Administration under the American
Recovery and Reinvestment Act to support grants, loans, loan repayment,

$40 million to prevent HAIs
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention plans to distribute
$40 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds to
state health departments for efforts to prevent healthcare-associated

Federal
money earmarked for health IT expansion
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office of the
National Coordinator for Health Information Technology is offering
$598 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grants
through its Health Information Technology Extension Program that
will help nonprofit organizations establish an estimated 70 regional
centers to help primary care providers achieve meaningful use
of electronic health records. More

campaign to prevent pediatric medical errors
As part of its Speak Up program, The Joint Commission is launching
a national education campaign to help parents make a difference
in their children’s care by asking the right questions and
being actively involved, whether it’s at the doctor’s
office, in the hospital, or even at home. More

Take steps to prevent post-op hyponatremia
The Institute for Safe Medication Practices recommends more education
and steps put in place to prevent inadequate amounts of sodium
in I.V. solutions used to hydrate children postoperatively.
