Alaska CE Requirements for License Renewal

Alaska.jpegAs a nurse in the state of Alaska, you are required to earn continuing education to renew your active license. All of our CE activities are accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). To assist you in meeting your state’s continuing education requirements, we have added links to related topics. Please ensure that any activity meets the requirements of your state board of nursing.

Renewal Requirements

RN

  • Every two years
    • 30 contact hours of continuing education (certified by ANCC, ANA, AMA, a nurse practitioner or nurse anesthetist certifying body or approved by another Board of Nursing)
    • No more than 10 contact hours may be earned through in-service nursing education offered by a licensed health care facility; continuing education must be earned in one of the following areas: nursing practice areas & special health care problems; biological, physical, or behavioral sciences, legal or ethical aspects of health care; management or administration of health care personnel & patient care or subjects approved by the board that are required as part of a formal nursing program but that are more advanced than those completed for original licensure.
LPN
  • Every two years
    • 30 contact hours of continuing education (certified by ANCC, ANA, AMA, a nurse practitioner or nurse anesthetist certifying body or approved by another Board of Nursing). 
    • No more than 10 contact hours may be earned through in-service nursing education offered by a licensed health care facility; continuing education must be earned in one of the following areas: nursing practice areas & special health care problems; biological, physical, or behavioral sciences, legal or ethical aspects of health care; management or administration of health care personnel & patient care or subjects approved by the board that are required as part of a formal nursing program but that are more advanced than those completed for original licensure.
Advanced Practice
  • Every two years
    • At least 60 contact hours of continuing education, including 15 contact hours of education in advanced pharmacology and clinical management of drug therapy for prescriptive authority.
***If you hold a current DEA registration, 2 hours of education in pain management and opioid use and addiction in the two year renewal period is required. ​***
