Louisiana CE Requirements for License Renewal

Louisiana.jpegAs a nurse in the state of Louisiana, you are required to earn continuing education to renew your active license. All of our CE activities are accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). To assist you in meeting your state’s continuing education requirements, we have added links to related topics. Please ensure that any activity meets the requirements of your state board of nursing.

Renewal Requirements

RN
  • Every two years
    • A minimum of 30 hours or 900 practice hours               
Advanced Practice
  • Every year for APRNs without national certification:
    • 30 hours at the advanced level and directly related to the full scope of the advanced practice role and population focus for APRN whose role and population focus does not provide for certification/recertification
    • 6 hours annually (12 hours every renewal perior) in pharmacotherapeutics for APRN with prescriptive authority
  • One time for APRNs with Controlled Substance Authority
    • 3 hours on drug diversion training, best practice prescribing of controlled substances, appropriate treatment for addiction and other matters regarding the prescribing of controlled dangerous substances
  • APRNs who are nationally board certified meet the renewal requirements for their Louisiana RN license by holding an approved certification.
