Virginia CE Requirements for License Renewal

As a nurse in the state of Virginia, you are required to earn continuing education to renew your active license. All of our CE activities are accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). 

Renewal Requirements

RN

• Every two years
  • 30 hours of continuing education, or 15 hours of continuing education and 640 hours of active practice as a nurse

LPN 

• Every two years
  • 30 hours of continuing education, or 15 hours of continuing education and 640 hours of active practice as a nurse

Advanced Practice

• Every two years
  • 40 hours of continuing education for nurse practitioner if licensed prior to May 8, 2002
  • 8 eight hours of continuing education in pharmacology or pharmacotherapeutics for nurse practitioner with prescriptive authority
