Washington CE Requirements for License Renewal

Washington.jpegAs a nurse in the state of Virginia, you are required to earn continuing education to renew your active license.

Renewal Requirements

RN
  • Annually (As of June, 2021)
    • Active nursing practice: 8 hours of continuing education and 96 hours of active practice 
    • Retired active nursing practice: 8 hours of continuing education and 24 hours a year (max of 90 days a year)

  • One-time requirement
    • 6 hours on suicide assessment, treatment and management 
LPN 
  • Annually
    • Active nursing practice: 8 hours of continuing education and 96 hours of active practice 
    • Retired active nursing practice: 8 hours of continuing education and 24 hours a year (max of 90 days a year)
  • One-time requirement
    • 6 hours on suicide assessment, treatment and management 
Advanced Practice
  • Every two years
    • 30 hours of continuing education in specialty area
    • 15 hours of conitnuing education in pharmacology for ARNP with prescriptive authority
  • One-time requirement
    • 6 hours on suicide assessment, treatment and management (CRNA are exempt)
