Abstract

Nursing practice models (NPMs) described the structural and contextual features of nursing practice environments. They offer direction in the design of information systems. Eleven factors describing NPMs emerged from a modified Delphi process: continuity of care, participation in management, collaboration, leadership, learning environment, nurse's role, staffing, communication, specialization, orientation of temporary staff, and group commitment. These factors provide nurse administrators with specific features of the clinical practice environment that IS applications should support.
