Abstract

Type 2 diabetes is a common condition in older adults who seek or are referred to rehabilitation services. Both oral and injected medications are frequently utilized in the management of this disorder. These drugs, as well as others commonly prescribed to older adults, have the potential to impact clinical decision making in rehabilitation. The purpose of this article is to discuss the aspects of therapeutic and adverse effects of these drugs that are most relevant to rehabilitation professionals. Any time a medication is introduced, withdrawn, or modified with regard to dose, careful attention must be given to symptoms reported by older adults with type 2 diabetes.
