Abstract

Formal orientation for nursing faculty who teach in a clinical facility should be standard practice. To maximize the clinical experience (for both students and instructors), a large pediatric hospital developed a mandatory, comprehensive orientation program for all visiting faculty. Observed benefits include enhanced faculty competency, improved learning experiences for students, and reduced turnover in clinical instructors providing consistency in content. The authors hope to inspire other large institutions to provide similar orientation programs for visiting/teaching faculty at their institution.
