It is remarkable to be celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Journal of Perinatal and Neonatal Nursing (JPNN), also known as the "Pink Journal." In 1986, the idea for the "Pink Journal" was launched and the first issue was published in 1987. JPNN has experienced a long and successful journey during the past 25 years. The original concept of a topically focused quarterly publication representing both newborn and maternal issues provided the successful framework for JPNN. Over the years, other segments have been added to the journal such as focused columns and the ending section, "Parting Thoughts." Publishers have changed over the past 25 years as well. JPNN originally started as an Aspen publication and later became part of the Lippincott Williams & Wilkins collection.

The idea that a nursing journal, half perinatal and half neonatal, could be successful was a question posed at the conception of the journal. However, it has been a framework that has stood the test of time. Giving such a comprehensive view to single topics such as sleep, bereavement, triage, vulnerability, and globalization of care, among so many others, allows for a richer and deeper presentation of content.

No journal can exist without champions. We are very fortunate at JPNN to have a publisher who has been a strong advocate for us. Beth Guthy has been that person. When JPNN became part of Wolters Kluwer (Health)/Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, Beth became a great supporter and mentor and added multiple enhancements to the journal. The production staff also contribute to a polished final product for JPNN.

Numerous editorial board members have made outstanding contributions over the last 25 years. On the perinatal side, the contributing editors, Jackie Tillett, ND, CNM, FACNM, and Lisa Miller, JD, CNM, have added their touch to the journal editorial side. Laura Mahlmeister, PhD, RN, had to step down this past year from her contributing editor role for "Legal Issues and Risk Management." Laura contributed heavily to the editorial section and we will miss her and acknowledge her outstanding work.

On the neonatal side there have been several editors over the years including founding coeditor Rita Gibes Grossman, MSc, RN; Mary Lynch, MS, MPH, RN, PNP; Susan Blackburn, PhD, RN, FAAN; and Susan Bakewell-Sachs, PhD, RN, PNP-BC. Mary Lynch and Susan Blackburn remain on the editorial board and Dr Blackburn serves as a contributing editor for the Physiology/Internet Resources Column. Jacqueline McGrath, PhD, RN, NNP, FNAP, FAAN, and M. Terese Verklan, PhD, CCNS, RNC, FAAN, round out the neonatal columns as contributing editors.

Within the 25:2 Anniversary issue of JPNN, three persistent themes are reviewed in a shorter opinion paper format to address changes in healthcare practice and policy, research, and education. The three themes are the following: Healthcare Reform: Impact on Practice; Research Agenda for the Future; and Future Educational Issues. We thank all contributors to this issue especially members of the editorial boards who have helped us celebrate this silver jubilee anniversary by putting their thoughts to print. We thank our readers and encourage them to continue to visit us online and in print and to support the "Pink Journal." We thank all past authors for their contributions to the literature. We hope you will celebrate with us at JPNN and visit us frequently at our Web site...http://www.jpnnjournal.com.
