Abstract

This article documents the self-reported effects of Anusara yoga on 91 patients 55 to 87 years old. The data section summarizes changes they experienced in strength, endurance/energy level, flexibility, ease of movement/coordination, balance, posture, breathing, mental clarity, mood, and pain. Mean improvement was 88.8%. More than 95% experienced an improvement in flexibility and posture; between 90% and 95% reported improved balance, breathing, and mood. The lowest scoring category, mental clarity, averaged 72.2% improvement. From the data collected, we feel confident recommending Anusara yoga as a support to older patients' treatment. As one student commented: "If you want to age gracefully, do yoga."
