"[The report] speaks to the need for adequate funding for systematic programming across the U.S., not only at the national level, but in state and local communities," said the lead author, Vilma Cokkinides, PhD, the ACS's Director in Risk Factor Surveillance. "That's the role of the guidelines-to show the importance of community action that needs to happen on multiple levels in our society-local as well as national."

Highlights from this latest edition of the annual publication include new figures on tobacco use, statistics on nutrition and obesity, updates on HPV vaccination for cervical cancer prevention, and an emphasis on the most critical cancer screening recommendations.
