Abstract

Evidence-based approach is the current buzzword; however, it is often used without a complete understanding of what it means. An evidence-based approach involves both an a priori rigorous methodology for conducting a systematic review or evidence analysis and a protocol using those results in application (policy or practice). The benefits of an evidence-based approach have been acknowledged; however, critics have identified areas of concern as this methodology is applied to nutrition. As we gain in experience, the evidence-based approach to nutrition policy will continue to be refined in the future.
