Abstract

Dozens of articles were published in the late 1980s through the 1990s documenting the findings of hip research using novel high-tech in vivo force and pressure measurements. Despite this tremendous body of work, it appears that few clinicians are aware of this scientific evidence for how and why they intervene. This article attempts to summarize the in vivo hip loading research and provide a practical guide for its use by clinicians as they strive to provide an evidence-based rationale for education and treatment of their patients.
