Abstract

The purpose of this article was to review how age-related musculoskeletal changes and specific age-related changes in the hip might affect the biomechanics of a golf swing. In addition, this article reviews the role of exercises in injury prevention and performance enhancement for senior golfers. Musculoskeletal age-related changes associated with a general decrease in strength, flexibility/range of motion, balance, and coordination may affect the golfing ability of a senior golfer. Changes in swing mechanics may put an older golfer at risk for injury. Exercise can play an important role in injury prevention and performance enhancement for senior golfers.
