Abstract

The increased incidence of obesity and diet-related chronic diseases has pushed nutrition to the forefront of political agendas, with nutrition labeling leading the discussion. As nutrition labels and health logos have proliferated rapidly on food and beverage packages, countries have moved towards standardized labeling policies-though there remains wide disagreement as to which labeling format is most helpful to consumers. To capture a snapshot of the global regulatory framework, this article will tour nutrition labeling around the world, stopping to comment on emerging regulatory developments such as the front-of-pack (FOP) labeling debate and nutrition labeling in restaurants.
